Dont think it'll ever happen. First off, Smart Parts is pushing this and almost noone else. Basically all this does is allow the companies to produce more paint for cheaper. Will it lower our prices? Maybe.... but not much, itll just allow them to have a higher markup. They are making a living now, so this is just smart parts trying to push and corner another market.
First off, this will be a very hard thing to do as there are a lot of players and fields out there that are just making it as is. This would make them have to spend unneeded and mostly unwanted money that doesnt get them anywhere.
Lets think about the physics of the game. To make these .50 rounds decent at all they would need to be at least the same weight as our standard .68's now. At 3 grams but with a smaller footprint when it hits you, they will now have to be fired slower to keep within out safety standards. OR they will be lighter and smaller allowing us to fire them at a higher velocity. now there is a lighter ball carrying less inertia at a distance with that much less ability to break at a distance. (Anyone ever played with/against a RAP4 .43 cal marker? TRASH, hard as hell to get it to break and they just dont get the distance).
Personally lets not worry about it, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, we are the buying power in this sport and the manufacturers will do what makes them the most money. If we purchase .68 markers and paint and accessories, are they going to keep producing .50? No. if you want a cheap option just to see if .50 is going to work, just pick up a spyder when they try to get it out, try it and if it works better than your .68 stuff... keep it.
Honestly, .50 is just another part of the game, or will be, and we are just going to have to live with it whether is makes it or not. All we need to do is ride it out. Smart parts is a company full of idiots and can go to hell, but at the end of the day, we are the ones that own this industry so it doesnt matter what a few posters and emails say.
